Student Parent Food Donations Program
COMMUNITY SERVICE - SOCIAL
Student Parent Food Donations Program aims to provide UC Berkeley student parents and their families with fresh and healthy food in a way that promotes community building, social justice and alleviates pressures of food insecurity among these families.
The Student Parent Food Donations Program focuses on mitigating food insecurity faced by the student parent community (including students with dependents) at UC Berkeley. We understand that student parents operate at heightened stress levels due to a complex mix of academic, financial, and family responsibilities. With the primary goal of alleviating some of these stresses, and the secondary but equally important goal of supporting efforts to reduce food wastage, this program was established in 2014 to rescue over 2,000 lbs of food donated by local community grocery stores and distribute them to the student population at UC Village every week.
