Prytanean Women’s Honor Society, founded in 1901, is the oldest collegiate women’s honor society in the United States. The founders engaged in issues relating to student health care and housing; their efforts contributed significantly to ameliorating student life on campus, notably by establishing the Tang Center, UC Berkeley’s medical clinic. The organization has since expanded to funding awards and providing support for outstanding scholarship and volunteer work on behalf of the University. Founded and actively maintained by Berkeley women, Prytanean is the emblem of high quality scholars and leaders who aim to make a difference in the world.
