Poker at Berkeley
SOCIAL - SCIENCES
Poker at Berkeley intends to bring the Poker community at Berkeley together through events, socials, and providing educational resources. Players of all skill levels are encouraged to get involved!
Members of Poker at Berkeley also teach the Introduction to Poker Decal, Stat 198. The Decal intends to take students from having little to no experience to being able to win against their friends and at most low stake games. The course focuses on understanding the probabilistic and heuristic aspects of playing effective poker.
The club serves a separate purpose from the Decal, with the Decal being intended to educate newer players while Poker at Berkeley primarily focuses on holding events. Poker at Berkeley hopes to build a strong community of players on campus through a variety of offerings to help students of all backgrounds get involved.
Poker at Berkeley understands the ethical implications of gambling. At no point during any event affiliated with Poker at Berkeley will students be required or allowed to wager real money. Poker at Berkeley further intends to provide resources for students concerned about their relationship with gambling.
As this is our first semester of (re)activity as a club, we will primarily be working on building out a member base, fundraising, and handling logistics for future club events. Prospective offerings include:
- Speaker Series of famous players such as Bill Perkins (who spoke at last semester's Decal)
- Large-scale Berkeley Poker Tournament once per semester
- Access to club poker solver software and computing resources
- Club coaching, study groups, and hand reviews to improve at the game
- Access to poker courses and further study resources through the club
- Frequent club socials and poker events
