Microbial Biology Graduate Student Group

SCIENCES - RESEARCH

This organization provides opportunities for professional development, networking opportunities, and intellectual exchange for microbiology graduate students, primarily through our annual Microbiology Student Symposium which is open to everyone. The purpose of this organization is to provide a context for professional development, community involvement, networking opportunities, and social interactions to foster intellectual exchange within the field of microbiology. This is accomplished primarily through our annual Microbiology Student Symposium held in the Spring. The Symposium is open to everyone, both on and off campus. Presentations and posters are solicited primarily from microbiology graduate students in California and, to a lesser extent, from undergraduates and post-doctoral researchers. Graduate students also nominate and vote to recruit two keynote speakers. Keynote speakers are research group leaders, typically professors, from around the world. This organization also functions to support graduate students both academically and emotionally on their path through graduate school. We believe that these goals are crucial for career development and for stimulating collaborative research efforts.
