Math Tournament at Berkeley
SCIENCES - EDUCATION
BMT hosts multiple math competitions each year with a mission to design holistic, high-quality tournaments, providing engaging/challenging new experiences to over 4000 middle/high-school contestants, and is focused on improving educational outcomes.
Welcome to the Berkeley Math Tournament (BMT)!
Since 2011, BMT, now a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, has grown into one of the largest student-run math competitions and is internationally renowned for our flagship in-person tournaments: BMT (2000+ high school contestants) and B(mini)MT (2000+ middle school contestants). We also run asynchronous, online versions of each contest as well as a handful of international satellites (China, Toronto, Singapore, and more) every year. Historically, we've hosted a mini-math festival after each big competition with activities like integration bees and estimation games, coding/art contests, and guest speakers including Grant Sanderson (3Blue1Brown), Po Shen Loh (USIMO Coach), Steve Chow (BlackPenRedPen), Richard Rusczyk (AoPS Founder), and Cliff Stoll (Acme Klein bottles) to share their experiences with math throughout their lives.

FALL 2023 & RECRUITING:
---
There is no need for any prior contest experience or even a formal mathematics background to be a valued contributor to our organization! Running large events like ours requires a lot of diverse skill sets, and we'll more than likely have tasks suited for anyone interested in joining. Anyone with interests and passions in math, STEM, education, event planning, or running day-to-day operations of a nonprofit is highly encouraged to join! If interested, please join our discord: BMT Discord. Please verify your Cal-affiliated email to gain access to channels.
---
We are currently recruiting new problem-writers as well as logistics organizers -- activities, design, DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion), finance/sponsorships, marketing, operations, satellites/asynchronous, and tech! We believe everyone can contribute something valuable, and resultantly we strive to remove as many barriers to entry for a student organization as possible. If you're interested in problem writing, all you need is to join the discord server, verify yourself, select the 'problem writing' role and you can start attending meetings (dates/times announced in the server). Those interested in logistics will need to verify themselves in the discord and fill out a brief Google form; we'll then organize a low-stakes brief coffee chat just to get to know a little bit about you and your specific interests. The interest form will be posted on our discord server. If you have any questions, please feel free to email us at questions@bmt.berkeley.edu.
