MOVE: AA Community Organizing Fellowship
SOCIAL - COMMUNITY SERVICE
MOVE aims to bridge the on-campus and off-campus Asian American (AA) community and develop the next generation of AA community organizers. MOVE facilitates the political consciousness and critical thinking of student fellows through social justice-based experiential learning by placing UC Berkeley students at local community organizations.
Inspired by the UC Berkeley Public Service Center and Seeding Change’s National Fellowship Program for Asian American Organizing and Civic Engagement, REACH! (the Asian/Pacific Islander Recruitment/Retention Center at University of California, Berkeley) launched MOVE: AAPI Community Organizing Fellowship in Spring 2017. We were a small team dedicated to bridging the gap between the university and the larger community. Currently, in our fifth year, MOVE: AAPI Community Organizing Fellowship has grown to work with 33 student fellows and 12 different host organizations in the Bay Area.
We are now also collaborating with the Asian Pacific American Student Development (APASD) office and Asian American and Asian Diaspora Studies (AAADS) department at the University of California, Berkeley to improve our capacity in supporting fellows and partner organizations.
