Effective Altruists of Berkeley

ENGINEERING - RESEARCH

How do we use our giving to do the most good? How about our volunteering, or activism, or future careers? EAB aims to provide the resources and expertise to help everyone at Cal answer these questions and put their most ambitious plans into action. Effective Altruism represents a larger growing movement of scholars, philosophers, scientists, and activists who are trying to use evidence and reason to help answer one basic question: "What is the best way to use my money, time, talent, and voice to improve the world as much as possible?" We aim to make not just a difference, but the most difference. Effective Altruists of UC Berkeley is a local chapter of Effective Altruism. Our primary goal at EAB is to help Berkeley students to make helping others effectively an important part of their lives and give them the resources to do it well. Among other things, we Provide information on the most promising giving opportunities researchers have found Host guest lectures and debates by ethicists, entrepreneurs, and nonprofit leaders from around the world Create networking opportunities and connect members to challenging, high impact internships Support and counsel anyone who's considering the kind of strong, scary commitments that are often necessary to make a huge impact: pledging income, changing consumption, deciding on a career, and more. As students at one of the best universities in the world, we have a tremendous opportunity to steer the course of the future by carefully planning what we want to care about, where we want to give, and what we want to do with our lives.
