Debate Society of Berkeley

The premier parliamentary debate organization at the University of California, Berkeley. We compete in the American Parliamentary (APDA) and British Parliamentary (BP) formats. The largest academic debate organization at the University of California, Berkeley. We compete internationally in the British Parliamentary format, an event featuring four teams of two persons that engage each other through a series of seven-minute speeches interspersed with questions. On the national level, our team competes within the American Parliamentary Debate Association—the oldest intercollegiate debating association in the United States. Our teams consistently compete in the national and world championships, traveling to the Netherlands, Mexico, and South Africa. At home, we coach and judge for local high schools, support Bay Area tournaments, and organize two competitions of our own.
