Dance Board of Berkeley Dance Community
CULTURAL - SOCIAL
Dance Board ensures that the Berkeley Dance Community (BDC) runs as smoothly and efficiently as possible, as well as makes sure BDC not only creates an environment worth dancing in, but also exists in one of the same caliber.
Dance Board for Berkeley Dance Community, generally referred to as “Dance Board” or “BDC Board,” serves to conduct monthly meetings with all dance group coordinators to insure that BDC runs as smoothly and efficiently as possible, as well as making sure BDC not only creates an environment worth dancing in, but also exists in one of the same caliber.
As a collective group of leaders in BDC, we hope to:
Form partnerships outside the Berkeley Dance Community including (but not limited to) groups such as Cal Taiko, Cal Athletics, and Cal Performances.
Take part in outreach organized through BDC's "Dance the Bay" charity group
Establish positive interactions between internal groups by eliminating cliques, purported stereotypes and hierarchies.
Organize and execute a fair system for scheduling the use of practice venues for every performance group (not just limited to dance groups), especially in regards to Eshleman Hall and the new Lower Sproul area.
Create a huge support system within the community, especially one that is culturally sensitive to other communities on campus.
Address issues including (but not limited to) cultural appropriation, diversity, inclusivity, sexism, masculinity v. femininity, and allyship.
Revitalize the loyalty and love for a passion that the BDC provides its dancers.
