Computer Science Mentors
DATA AND COMPUTING - ENGINEERING - SOCIAL
CSM offers an open and inclusive community space for students in computer science to receive individualized academic and social support. We coordinate various events, provide supplementary courses, and tutoring opportunities.
The EECS department has a great support system for current lower division courses. However, as the lower division courses expand to over 1,000 students, the support system needs to scale to meet the demands of the courses. The majority of computer science courses, for instance, is composed of undergraduates, and thus it is necessary to encourage students to continue lab assisting and tutoring in order to better handle the needs of students learning computer science. Through creating a community of computer science mentors and teachers, the system will be better equipped to support those in need it. CSM will be unique from other organizations through its approach to providing support to students taking computer science classes. The organization will strive to create a safe community of EECS educators, mentors, and students, not only to encourage educational theory discussions, but also to provide solid social support for students. Through individualized attention and encouraging general student interaction in addition to academic support, CSM will attempt to lower the barrier to entry to both taking courses and getting help in the EECS department.
