CASCADE: Community Service
COMMUNITY SERVICE - EDUCATION
CASCADE is a mentorship organization dedicated to developing a culture of compassion, service and empathy among elementary school students.
Cascade is a mentorship organization dedicated to developing a culture of compassion, service and empathy. Our goal is to reach 4th and 5th grade students at elementary schools around Alameda County through an original program our members have specially developed. The program is spread over the course of 6 weeks and is intended to take place for an hour once a week during an on-site after school program.
Our vision is to develop compassion and empathy by guiding young students through applied community service.
Every semester, Cascade hopes to recruit Berkeley students to engage with students in their local elementary schools. This program will offer its volunteers the unique opportunity to develop strong bonds with both the elementary school students and the Cascade family.
In Cascade, we train our members and volunteers through weekly meetings containing material from our program. Members have the option to enroll in a decal after being accepted into the club. Attendance to general meetings is crucial in acquiring the skills necessary for members to begin teaching the elementary school students. These meetings last around an hour and 30 min and entail engaging presentations and activities tailored to help Cascade’s members to be strongly equipped with the competence required in the volunteer settings.
