Best Buddies at Berkeley
COMMUNITY SERVICE - SOCIAL
Best Buddies is the world’s largest organization dedicated to ending the social, physical, and economic isolation of the 200 million people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Our program is dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement to empower the special abilities of people with IDD by creating opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development, and inclusive living.
Founded in 1989 by Anthony K. Shriver, Best Buddies is a vibrant organization that has grown from one original chapter to nearly 3,000 chapters worldwide, positively impacting the lives of over 1.3 million people with and without IDD. Best Buddies engages participants in each of the 50 states and in 50 countries around the world.
By joining Best Buddies at UC Berkeley, you will form meaningful one-to-one friendships with those with IDD, which will help them secure successful jobs, live independently, improve public speaking, self-advocacy and communication skills, and feel valued by society. www.bestbuddies.org
